Hatha Yoga has many systems which are devised by diverse teachers emphasizing on its various aspects. Bikram Yoga has also evolved out of Hatha Yoga and is one among the many systems. Bikram Yoga was brought up by Bikram Choudhary. Bikram was born in a city called Kolkatta (Calcutta) in India in 1946. He had lot of interest in Yoga and at a small age of four, became a follower of Bishnu Gosh. Because of his true efforts and hard work Bikram won many competitions and championships of Yoga in India. He mastered all the aspects of Hatha Yoga. After winning and getting appreciation all over he started establishing training centers for Yoga.
But that was not all. Finally he came up with his own system of Yoga, called as Bikram Yoga. Bikram is now a well known figure and has even opened up a Yoga school in Los Angeles. He attends and imparts his experiences and knowledge in various workshops and discussion groups all over America. Bikram Yoga consists up of a series of almost 26 Asanas. These Asanas have to be done in a room where the temperature is controlled and maintained at around 90-100 degrees. This increase in temperature makes the body of the person practising inside the room to warm up and become more soft and flexible. This helps the practising person to achieve and perform all the poses and Asanas easily. The sequence of 26 postures starts with standing asana then moves to the backward bends, forward bending ones and then those which involve twists. The session of Bikram Yoga almost takes around one and a half hour. So with Bikram Yoga you can increase flexibility, strength and endurance. Also stress can be reduced, coordination can be improved and a person can feel more energetic.
