Indian Astanga yoga is modified and represented in the west by the name core power yoga. This modification was done by disciples of Sri K. Pattabhi, who brought the concept to the west. Beryl Bender Birch termed the name core power yoga. As the name goes this form of yoga helps to strengthen the core muscles of our body. There are basically three sections under power yoga. They are the Core Power, Unlocking athletic power and the Soul of Strength. The core power is focused on building up strength of our back muscles and abdominals. Unlocking the athletic power concentrates on flexibility along with strength of back, hips, pelvis and abdominals. Soul of strength consists up of some very difficult poses mainly for the mid body. Core power yoga is done in room where the temperature is maintained and kept higher.
Asanas are done in a fast pace and have to maintained for longer periods of time. This leads to more sweating along with various exercises performed causing detoxification. Regular practise will help individuals gain strength, balance, flexibility, endurance, concentration and provide peace of mind. Core power yoga is being widely used by people involved in various sports that require more of core strength and stamina such as martial arts, running, swimming etc. Core power yoga helps to strength the back muscles along with core muscles, so this procedure may be used to prevent back problems and pain caused to many individuals basically because of weakness and undue stress on back muscles. It’s sometimes hard to continue this form of yoga as at times it may be quiet demanding and energy taking.
